
Keeping IR Lamps Warm, But Not Blinding
Most infrared heaters just blast a wall of light and heat into a room. That’s fine for a warehouse, but in a bathroom or a nursery? Not so much. You can’t have a blinding glare or random UV spikes when you’re dealing with a baby’s sensitive eyes. We figured out a way to fix that by tweaking how the light actually behaves.
Protecting the Eyes
Standard short-wave IR lamps are basically bright white spotlights. To stop that, we put special coatings on the quartz glass. Think of it like a filter—it blocks the harsh visible light and UV rays but lets the cozy, long-wave heat slide right through. Now, there’s a tiny trade-off here. By softening the glow, you lose a bit of raw heat efficiency. But honestly? It’s a price worth paying to make sure nobody is straining their eyes.
The Nitty-Gritty Hardware
We use high-purity quartz for the tubes. Why? Because these things heat up and cool down constantly, and cheap glass would just warp. We also tuned the filament to a lower color temperature. It keeps the light steady and kills that annoying “strobe” effect. These run on your normal home voltage, but we’ve capped the wattage. We don’t want the fixture housing getting dangerously hot. Just a heads-up: if you’re tucking these into a tight ceiling mount, make sure there’s some breathing room for the air to move. Otherwise, the safety switch is going to trip and shut everything down.
Dealing with Steam and Splashes
Since these usually live in bathrooms, moisture is the enemy. Steam loves to find its way into electrical contacts, and if water hits those terminals, the lamp is toast. To stop that, we use heavy-duty gaskets and adhesives that don’t melt under heat. We still recommend using a waterproof, IP-rated housing to get the most life out of the bulb. The good news is they’re designed as drop-in replacements, so they should fit right into most standard bathroom fixtures without a headache.
