Why high-end fruit and pet treat lines are switching to our IR lamps
If you’re shipping export-grade fruit or pet treats, you know the struggle. You need the moisture gone, but you can’t afford to scorch the outside of the product. It’s a delicate balance. That’s why we built our infrared (IR) lamps. They’re designed for those heavy-duty conveyor systems that never seem to stop. Lately, we’ve seen a huge shift in the pet treat world. People are ditching the old convection ovens for shortwave IR. Why? Because it actually penetrates the product. It doesn’t just bake the surface; it gets inside, and it does it fast.
The heat and the hardware
We don’t do “one size fits all.” We build these lamps to match your specific power grid and wattage. We use high-wattage quartz tubes to pack a ton of heat into a small space. Here is the best part: you can actually shorten your conveyor line without slowing down your drying rate. It saves a massive amount of floor space. Just a heads-up, though—these lamps hit peak temperature almost instantly. Make sure your electrical panels can handle that initial startup surge, or you’ll be tripping breakers all morning.
Built to last (and easy to fix)
Nobody wants to spend their weekend replacing burnt-out bulbs. We use high-purity quartz glass and halogen gas fills to stop the tungsten filament from evaporating. This keeps the tubes clear and bright instead of turning them dark and useless over time. For things like dried mango or chewy treats, we often use coated tubes. This tweaks the heat spectrum so the core dries out before the surface burns. And when a lamp finally does give out? We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. You can swap a lamp in a few minutes and get the line moving again without having to rewire the whole rack.
Making it work in your shop
These lamps are pretty much “plug and play” for most dehydration gear. You get instant control—heat on, heat off, no waiting around for an oven to preheat. But there is a catch. Shortwave IR puts out a lot of intense heat. If you’re using a cheap conveyor belt, it’ll melt. You’ll want to stick with stainless steel mesh or heat-resistant PTFE. Also, do yourself a favor and pair these with a PID controller. It keeps things from overheating if the line accidentally stops, which saves you from ending up with a tray of charcoal.
