You need warmth that feels cozy, not a glare that hurts the eyes—especially when you’re dealing with sensitive little ones, whether they’re newborn chicks or infants. Keeping eyes safe Standard short-wave lamps can be a bit too much. They blast a wide spectrum of light that can actually stress out the retina. To stop that from happening, we put special coatings on the quartz glass. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the lamp. It blocks the harsh UV rays and visible light but lets the deep, warming infrared waves slide right through. This means the heat gets into the skin or feathers where it’s needed, without hitting the ocular nerves with an intensity that’s just plain uncomfortable. Water, steam, and heat density If you put a basic lamp in a steamy bathroom or a damp coop, it’s going to die. Fast. Corrosion and short circuits are just waiting to happen. That’s why we seal our units in IP-rated housings. It keeps the moisture away from the electrical bits so the lamp actually lasts. Then there’s the heat itself. It all comes down to how much power you’re shoving into how much space. If you take high wattage and cram it into a short tube, you get a “hot spot.” It’s powerful, sure, but you have to be careful. Too many watts in a tiny footprint and you’re risking a melted housing or, worse, a fire in a coop full of dry bedding. Balance is everything here. The trade-offs Here’s the catch: because those protective coatings block some of the light, they also block a tiny bit of the heat. You might notice it’s a little less intense than a clear quartz tube. To get the same room temperature, you’ll probably want to bump your wattage up by about 10-15%. And a pro tip?
